What to Expect When Hiring a Custom Brand Designer

You’ve been scrolling through Instagram at 11:00pm again and saving content and brands that make you go “WOW, I want that energy for my business.” Your Pinterest boards are basically digital vision boards at this point and you’ve texted your friend approximately 47 times asking “Does this color palette scream ‘luxury’ or ‘trying too hard’?”

If this sounds familiar, you’re probably ready for a custom brand. However, before you dive headfirst into this investment, let’s talk about what this experience looks like.

Pre-Project: An Honest Conversation

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: this is a five-figure investment. Since I genuinely care about your success more than my bank account, I want to make sure you’re ready for this experience and that we’re a good fit. I’d rather have an honest conversation upfront and potentially walk away than take your money when the timing isn’t right. Your success matters more to me than a quick yes!

In order to prepare before our call together, here are some questions that will help you determine if you’re ready for a custom brand design:

  • What products and/or services do you sell or want to sell?
  • Who is your ideal client?
  • How does money flow into your business?
  • What are your goals 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years from now?

If you’re reading through these questions and thinking “Um, I’m not 100% sure about some of these,” that’s okay! Building a business is an ever-evolving journey, and clarity comes in waves.

Here’s what I want you to know: I’m not just here to design your brand, I’m here to guide you through the entire process. If you’re feeling uncertain about your ideal client, fuzzy on your business goals, or overwhelmed by the strategy piece, we can work through that together.

Phase 1: Brand Discovery

Once we’ve signed and completed your custom brand design proposal, the real fun begins! I’ll send you several exploration assignments that allow me to essentially become a student of your brand. I’ll ask you a ton of thought provoking questions because the deeper we can go, the better.

I’ll also have you curate a Pinterest board full of pins that inspire you and the brand you’re wanting to bring to life. As you do this, try and pin textures, colors, architecture, fashion, light, scenes, etc. instead of pinning logos and other already created designs. Here’s a sneak peek at my personal Pinterest board from my brand design inspiration! 🙂

We will go through all of this together very thoroughly in order to make sure we’re on the same page.

Some advice: I know you’re excited and want to rush through this part, but please don’t. Take time with these assignments. Dedicate a solid hour at least without distractions and head phones on, to focus all your time and attention on this part. It’s so important because everything we’ll build on starts here.

Phase 2: Brand Strategy

Great design that converts starts with strategy, not aesthetics. This phase is where we get nerdy about your business goals and figure out how your brand will help you achieve them.

I’ll share concepts with you, gather feedback, and refine until your brand feels like the visual manifestation of your biggest business dreams.

Phase 3: Brand Design

The visual party you’ve been waiting for! Here’s what makes this truly custom: every color choice, font selection, and visual element is intentionally crafted to serve your strategy; no one else’s.

The deliverables you’ll receive:

  • Logo suite that works across all platforms (custom primary logo, secondary logo, and submarks)
  • Custom color palette
  • Typography
  • Visual elements and patterns
  • Website design
  • Photography
  • Brand collateral

Once we finalize every visual element, I’ll create a brand guide for you so that you can refer back to in order to stay consistent in your marketing and share with others on your team.

Phase 4: Launch Day

The moment has arrived… your brand is ready to make its debut! But before we send you off to conquer the world, I’ll make sure you’re equipped for success.

Launch Preparation Includes:

  • Brand guide
  • Launch graphics
  • Website training session + recorded videos
  • Asset organization and delivery
  • Ongoing support recommendations
